Presentation: Meeting of the Heads of State

Title: Introducing the African Monitor to the African Former Heads of State.

Some points on Programme Activities:

Researching:

  • Synthesise existing quantitative data and qualitative research, leveraging the right network of partners
  • Collect and synthesise additional qualitative data on the realities at the grassroots level, leveraging faith networks

Monitoring:

  • Track chosen indicators to monitor implementation
  • Supplement with interviews with key decision makers in the implementation process

Advocacy:

  • Engage with governments and lobby international donor bodies and other constituencies to enable change
  • Broaden and contribute to the public debate through media activity
  • Raise the expectations and awareness among grassroots communities who then pressure governments through community action
  • The Launch of the African Monitor in Cape Town, Kigali, London, and Addis.
  • The role the African Heads of State can play:-
    • Support initiatives to monitor international commitments made to Africa on development delivery
    • Continue to be ambassadors and champions for development in Africa
    • Specifically: They can be Members of the Togona to guide the work of the African Monitor (The Archbishop will be approaching a few of them to become part of the Togona). Explain what the Togona is.
    • The can spread the word of the African Monitor in their Networks.
